Wood-concrete bridges
Construction of Mixed Bridges
Product Features
The construction of mixed wood-concrete bridges is a widely used solution worldwide. The use of a combination of different materials allows us to take advantage of their respective strengths, namely the high strength/mass ratio that wood presents, the high compressive strength provided by concrete and the ductility provided by the metal connectors used to connect the wooden elements and the concrete. Mixed wood-concrete bridges are therefore an easy-to-build solution, requiring few human and material resources for their construction. It is also an environmentally friendly solution, a status conferred by the use of resources extracted from the forest, especially the national forest.
About
The company Pedrosa e Irmãos, Lda, presents itself in the market as a company dedicated to the exploration and commercialization of products originating from the forest, having recently participated in co-promotion with the University of Coimbra in a research project whose focus was the development of an optimized solution for mixed wood-concrete boards.
Project
The project culminated in the construction of the first example in national territory, located in a rural area and with a span of 4m, allowing the crossing of a small stream, enabling the carrying out of all operations inherent to the cutting and transportation of woody material. Each solution must be studied in particular taking into account the usage requirements, as well as the morphology of the terrain where the bridge will be installed.
